PRESENTATION ARE MIDLANDS AND SOUTH EAST REGIONAL FINAL

BASKETBALL WINNERS 2018

Portlaoise was the setting for a very competitive regional final between Presentation Thurles and Tullamore College on Tuesday 4th of December last. In the opening quarter Presentation Thurles stormed into the game and dominated the opening exchanges. The tireless work in defence by Tasha Tully and Laura Daly set the pace and created a lot of fast break opportunities, with the Presentation scoring 29 points. There was more to come from the Presentation girls with Marie

Creedon dominating inside, Amy McGovern cleaning up on the boards and Anna Dunne, Laura Daly and Tasha Tully providing the scores from long range. Tullamore came back into the game with a string of 3-pointers which were rapidly answered and Presentation ran out winners on a score line of 73-36.

Well done to the Pres girls who have the All- Ireland playoffs next on the agenda in mid-January.

Senior Soccer Success:

Presentation Thurles qualified for the Munster Senior ‘A’ final on Thursday last with a superb performance against a Waterford opposition which features two current Irish under-19 internationals. The Thurles girls set the tone straight from the kick-off determined not to relinquish their Munster and All-Ireland titles on home soil. They were rewarded for a positive start when Aoibheann Clancy fired home after ten minutes. Before Abbey Community College had an opportunity to respond PresentationThurles doubled their lead when a fantastic team move resulted in Lauren McCormack converting from close range. The game was over as a contest when Aoibheann Clancy scored a fantastic individual goal just on the stroke of half time. The opening moments of the second half saw Rachel Sweeney make a fantastic save from a well taken free kick. Katie Ryan made several key interceptions to keep the Waterford girls at bay and Anna Gavin dominated the midfield area throughout. Aoibheann Clancy completed a brilliant individual display with two further second half goals. The girls now look forward to a Munster final against the winners of Coláiste na Trocaire Rathkeale and Coláiste Choilm Ballincollig.

Final score: Presentation Thurles 5

Abbey Community College Ferrybank 1

Canon Hayes Awards:

We were delighted to be nominated for a prestigious Canon Hayes County Award at the recent ceremony in Ballykisteen Golf Hotel. We were honoured to stand alongside the victorious Tipperary U-21 hurlers and European and World Boxing champion Ellie Mai Gartland. Ellie Mai was a deserving winner. We were thrilled to receive a perpetual trophy for our historic treble success in 2018. It was a remarkable year in which the Presentation girls made sporting history and the memories of those great games will stay with us for a long time.

Work Experience:

Well done to our Transition Year and Leaving Cert Applied students who completed their work experience last week. The girls embraced the opportunity to experience life in the work place and really enjoyed the week. We are very grateful to all the businesses who welcomed the girls into their work place and gave them the opportunity to experience the world of work.

RELIGION DEPARTMENT NEWS

Last week as part of Remembrance month, transition year students attended the Hospital of the Assumption to provide music for the annual mass in remembrance of all patients who passed away in the last twelve months. It was a very special and prayerful occasion and the girls presence and participation really added to the service.

Transition Year students attended their annual religious retreat in Mount St Anne’s in Portarlington. It was a chance for the girls to get away from the hustle and bustle of life and engage with religion and contemplate their paths in life.

Sixth year students also took part in their annual retreat as we welcomed four facilitators to our school and in small groups they had a chance to engage with a wide variety of thought provoking workshops. We thank Sr. Fidelis, Fr. Joe, Sue Ann O Donnell and Brid Harty who helped co-ordinate the retreat for the girls. The girls really enjoyed the chance to take time out from their studies and focus

on spiritual and religious matters.

REMEMBRANCE MASS

On Thursday last we celebrated our school Remembrance Mass in our chapel in memory of our loved ones who are no longer with us. The Mass was led by our chaplain Fr. Vincent Stapleton with music provided by students from Transition Year. The Remembrance Mass is the culmination of our month long focus throughout November on remembering deceased friends and family members.
