 OpenDay

Opening School Mass

On Tuesday September 25th we celebrated our opening school mass in the Cathedral Thurles. The theme of our mass was “Care for the Environment”. A prayerful tone was set by our school choir who sang as students entered the Cathedral. Pope Francis’ invitation to care for the earth was extended to all our students who are being encouraged this year to care for the environment. Our school chaplain Fr. Vincent Stapleton highlighted the theme wonderfully throughout the mass and especially in his homily. We were reminded that the biggest threat to our environment is the belief that someone else will fix it and the students were urged to be active stewards in taking care of the earth. There was an atmosphere of prayerfulness and reverence which culminated in our uplifting recessional hymn. Many thanks to all involved in preparing for the mass.

TG4 visit the Pres Thurles!

Today was a very exciting day as the crew from TG4 came to our school! They followed 5th year student Rachel McCormack as she made her way thorugh her school day - from hockey training to Irish class with Ms Devane and even to the Boarding School where Rachel is a senior boarder for 5 days each week. They were so impressed with our school they recorded our trad group as they took some time to practice, our 5th year choir who were accompanied by our school orchestra and even took time to record our Mary Poppins cast members as they rehearsed for our upcoming musical! We look forward to watching the episode which will air later on this year. Well done to Rachel and to all involved, we are very proud of you and how well you represented our school today!

Trip to Delphi: Transition Year students kicked off what is certain to be a wonderful year with a trip to Delphi Adventure Centre, Co. Mayo. On Sunday 9th of September last one hundred and ten students headed for the award winning adventure centre, set in the rolling hills of rugged and gorgeous Connemara. Over the following two and a half days the girls enjoyed a wide variety of water and land activities including surfing, kayaking, rock climbing, high ropes, tunnelling and team challenges. The trip allowed the Transition Year students to interact in a setting outside the school environment while at the same time conquering their fears and challenging themselves with new experiences and stepping outside their comfort zone. Everyone thoroughly enjoyed the trip and we look forward to the year ahead.

A big thank you to Archbishop Kieran O'Reilly for blessing the pitch and track and also to  Niamh and Grainne Dwyer for speaking to our girls about the importance of utilising this fantastic facility and for cutting the ribbon to officially open the pitch! We were delighted to have Avril Deegan and Sorcha Moloney back to run the first official lap of the new track. Both girls are champion atheltes and represented the Presentation in many competitions. We also thank everyone who travelled for the occasion, from parents to past staff. We thank you for continually supporting us and being part of the Presentation journey.

Congratulations to all our 5th and TY students as they collected their Junior Certificate results this Wednesday 12th September. Nerves were at an all time high that day but soon turned to relief as they opened their envelopes. The results were outstanding with Aoife Dunphy receiving 10 A's in all Higher Level subjects. Overall the girls were delighted and a big thank you to all their parents for the continued support and to their teachers for all the hard work they put in over the years!

Jake Carter called into the Presentation Thurles as part of his visit to the town. He performed for the girls and then was very happy to pose for some photos! He is pictured below with our 6th year students and our 2nd year Music class. He then kindly donated two tickets for his concert in The Source Arts Centre this Friday night. Hard luck to everyone who entered the draw (teachers included!!) but congratulations to 6th year student Lillian Murray who won the two tickets!
