PRESENTATION DIARY (THURLES) MAY 4TH2016

County Under 16 Football Champions

The Gaelic Footballers headed to Rockwell College this week, intent on retaining their County title. Grouped with Loreto Clonmel, Cahir and Presentation Clonmel, the Thurles girls topped the group thanks to three straight victories. Captain Marie Creedon was to the fore throughout, as was midfield partner Niamh Ryan. Lauren McCormack was ruthless in attack, aided by the tireless Ciara Maher and Jenny Irwin. The semi-final saw the girls up against Scoil Mhuire Carrick on Suir and in a tight first half Dervla Heffernan ensured the Thurles girls went into the interval ahead. Joan Harty, Aine O Connell, Laura Daly and Katie Ryan were also dominant in defence and Rachel Sweeney produced two vital stops before Marie Creedon fired to the back of the net to put the Thurles girls into a commanding lead. Lorna Hayes, Ellen Moore and Zoe O Meara all registered great scores to close out the game. Rachel Moore made several interceptions as Scoil Mhuire tried to rescue something from the game. The final saw the girls come up against Loreto Clonmel again who had proven stubborn opponents in the group phase. However, the Thurles girls were not to be denied and took the game to their opponents from the very first whistle with Niamh Ryan and Marie Creedon on top form as they both raised green flags in the opening period. Further goals from Lauren McCormack and Niamh Ryan saw the Thurles girls close out a superb victory and retain their crown. Captain Marie Creedon received the cup to great cheers from her team mates and mentors. Congratulations to all involved.
