Science in Transition Year: Transition Year students recently participated in "Spectroscopy in a Suitcase" in association with the Royal Society of Chemistry and the University of Limerick. SIAS gave TY's the chance to learn about spectroscopy through hands-on experience spectrometers. They studied the principles of spectroscopic techniques, using real-life contexts to demonstrate the applications of the techniques. Our budding chemists" were enthused by the use of chemistry in everyday life. Many thanks to Sarah Hayes from UL for facilitating this module. They also got to experience the fun side of science recently while attending a Science Magic Show presented by Ms. Laurie Ryan from the University of Limerick. While the TY students were enthralled at the demonstration, this magic show helps students to realise that there are really interesting scientific principles behind the booms and bangs
